The focus on rapid combat and escaping a besieged city leaves little room for slower exploration or puzzle-solving. Its low-fidelity pixel-art presentation also sacrifices visual detail for a retro style.
What is Anomalous?
Anomalous is a fast-paced action shooter with pixel-art visuals and a low-fidelity style inspired by an earlier era of games.
It takes place in Kosolov, an industrial city controlled by a secretive authority. Experiments intended to revive the dead and create a controllable workforce have ended in disaster, producing mechanical, biological, and other horrors. As the city collapses, the player fights through it and attempts to escape while facing the monsters and the military authority trying to purge everything living. The game includes a heavy metal and techno soundtrack featuring music by BOD.

Anomalous compared to similar games
Anomalous centers on fast-paced combat through an industrial city, while Jusant focuses on climbing, stamina management, and exploring routes up a tower. Abyssus is also a shooter, but its description emphasizes multiplayer, hand-crafted levels, and weapons that can be refitted with ancient technologies.
