Is Alluris worth it for you?
We tell you who should skip it, too.
Play it if you…
Good fit- Players who enjoy branching fantasy adventures with choices shaped by character history
- RPG players who want run-based progression and changing starting conditions
- Casual players who prefer card-based controls over complex movement inputs
Skip it if you…
Saves you a refund- Players seeking a fixed, linear campaign may find the changing routes and run structure unsuitable
- Players wanting deep direct combat may bounce off the card-based resolution system and modifiers that can reduce combat ability
- Players looking primarily for town management or crafting may not find those systems central to the adventure
Our take on Alluris
The bounce point arrives when a player expects direct combat or a fixed route. Encounters instead use left-or-right card decisions, while character background, identity, and previous run choices determine which responses appear.
What is Alluris?
Alluris is a fantasy adventure RPG about traveling from the roads outside the city, gaining levels, and gathering items, followers, and abilities before confronting Baron Dread.
Each situation is handled by dragging cards left or right, while the available choices can depend on the character’s backstory, race, gender, and earlier decisions in the current run. There is no single route through the central conflict. Exploration can also reveal new races and backgrounds for later runs.
These modifiers change the starting conditions and play style, such as reducing combat ability while increasing access to gold or opening locations that normally take much longer to reach. The story can involve saving the world or dealing with smaller events, including a colony of bears threatened by lumberjacks.
How Alluris plays
- 01Card-Based Decisions
- Situations are resolved by moving cards left or right, with available responses shaped by character history and earlier choices.
- 02Run-Based Progression
- Each journey builds levels and collects equipment, companions, and abilities before the final confrontation.
- 03Unlockable Backgrounds
- Exploration can reveal additional races and starting backgrounds for subsequent journeys.
- 04Changing Play Styles
- Unlocked modifiers can alter starting conditions, including combat ability, gold access, and reachable locations.
Alluris compared to similar games
Alluris combines a card-driven adventure with leveling, collectible followers and abilities, and run-changing races or backgrounds. Hero of the Kingdom is also an adventuring RPG, but its description presents a calm journey without time pressure rather than Alluris's branching decisions and variable starting conditions.
