Our take on Above the Fold
This management game replaces the usual focus on buildings, production chains or customer service with editorial judgment. Reporters have subject preferences, and choosing which stories receive front-page space becomes a central management decision alongside finances and stakeholder demands.
What is Above the Fold?
Set in 1998 in the small town of Goodbury, this newspaper simulation game casts the player as editor-in-chief of a paper that must be rebuilt.
Recruit and manage reporters, give them stories suited to their interests and decide which reports lead the front page. Increase subscriptions while addressing the demands of advertisers, the paper’s owner and the staff. Control finances, purchase office upgrades and keep cash available for problems such as a reporter in jail or a plumbing repair. Research new technology, pursue goals and challenges, and respond to random and historical events. The paper’s development can follow different paths as it grows from an unknown local publication toward an international media outlet.
