Our take on A Ghostly Rose
The defining mechanic is solo combat built around damaging individual enemy body parts and discovering the condition that mentally breaks each foe.
What is A Ghostly Rose?
A Ghostly Rose is a SNES-inspired, turn-based RPG about Edmund, who fights through a surreal and gloomy world to see someone again.
Combat centers on martial arts and targeted injuries: Edmund attacks enemy body parts, while enemies can damage his as well. Each foe has a mental breaking point, which may involve a head injury, nearing death, or Edmund's refusal to surrender. The game includes multiple dungeons, fixed enemy encounters, original pixel art, and an FM Synth-inspired soundtrack. Rooms cleared of enemies remain cleared, and the vendor estimates around 8 hours of gameplay. The game is a remake of Three Ghostly Roses but is presented as a separate experience.
How A Ghostly Rose plays
- 01Targeted Combat
- Martial arts attacks can injure specific body parts, and enemies can inflict similar damage on Edmund.
- 02Mental Breakpoints
- Each opponent has a condition that can mentally break it, such as a head injury or being near death.
- 03Fixed Encounters
- Cleared rooms do not repopulate with enemies, and the game has no random encounters.
- 04Original Presentation
- The game uses original pixel artwork and an FM Synth-inspired soundtrack.
